SPENCER DAY
With the five-track EP "Movie of Your Life," Spencer Day continues
to gleefully defy categorization, with songs that range from updated
tangos to retro '70s MOR. Day's velveteen tones are as rich as ever
on the title song and "Last Train to New Jersey," the best cuts. And
the self-penned music is ratcheted up several notches by terrific,
surprising arrangements and backup support by such talents as the
Turtle Island String Quartet and drummer Scott Amendola. The disc
includes a clever music video set to the title track, made by San
Francisco Academy of Art students. The San Francisco singer has
been compared to everyone from Michael Buble to Rufus Wainwright.
Enough: Spencer Day doesn't need to be compared to anyone anymore.
